COMPARE HIRING COSTS
Assume you need 6 sales people added to your floor. You know the best way is to bring in an outside company but the cost is confusing. Most companies ask that you reimburse the students who attend class and last 60 – 90 days. You would pay them back the tuition they paid for training. The companies using that policy sell you on the fact that you have no risk unless they work out.
THE DEALER RESOURCE GROUP has a $0 net cost plan. The dealer is invoiced for the tuition from each student and the student agrees to pay the dealer back via payroll deduction. But, let’s look at the potential cost to your dealership comparing both programs
The Dealer Resource Group (DRG) charges $1,350 for its advertising package. COMPANY A charges $1,395. DRG invoices the dealer $369 per hired student. COMPANY A charges $499 to each student whether the dealer hires them or not. If we assume that all 6 people remain in the dealership for at least 90 days, here is the total dealer cost:
DRG - $1,350 total cost because the students would have paid the dealer back within the first 6 weeks of employment. Total Investment: $1,350
COMPANY A - $1395 for advertising plus $499 for each student for a total of $2,994 + $1,395. Total investment: $4,389
If only half survive 90 days – In fairness, we’ll assume that the 3 who left were there at least 3 weeks. With DRG the costs would be $1,350 for advertising and $553.50 in uncollected tuition, for a total investment of $1,903.50. But if the students who left stayed for 4 or more weeks, the cost does go down. Or, if you simply reduced the amount of weeks to collect, from six down to 4 or 3, you would recover more of your investment faster.
With COMPANY A the costs would be $1,395 plus $499 each for the 3 students who remained for a total investment of $1,395 for advertising and $1,497 for reimbursing the remaining students for a total investment of $2,892.
